Authentication
Sign in securely, manage your account, and handle access.
Kitchen uses ATProto authentication. You sign in with your handle, and authentication happens with your Personal Data Server (PDS), not a Kitchen-managed password.
How login works in Kitchen
Use your handle
Your handle is your identity on the Atmosphere network, for example user.bsky.social or a custom domain handle.
Authenticate with your PDS
When you log in, Kitchen sends you through ATProto authorization using your handle's host (your PDS). You approve access there.
Kitchen does not collect or store your account password.
Continue using the same identity across apps
The same handle can be used across other Atmosphere-compatible apps.
Saved handles on the login screen
Kitchen may save previously used handles locally in your browser for faster account switching.
This saved-handle list is for convenience and can be changed by switching accounts.
Create a new account
If you do not have a handle yet, use Create Account on the login page.
Kitchen currently uses selfhosted.social as the default PDS host for signup.
You can migrate your account to a different host later if needed.
Troubleshooting
My handle is not found
- Check spelling and punctuation
- Try the full handle value
- Confirm your account is active on your PDS host
I cannot complete authorization
- Retry login and re-approve access on your PDS prompt
- Ensure your browser allows the auth redirect flow
- Try again from a clean login tab
